i’m maia!

I’m a multidisciplinary artist based in Manchester, UK. I am primarily a tattoo artist and printmaker. I studied art at Edinburgh College of Art, but got most of my enthusiasm from growing up with my very artistic and very supportive mum. I have a lot of memories of doing mono prints with her for her own projects as a kid, and doing my art homework together on the kitchen floor.

I love to read. I’m a bit of a nerd about gothic and horror fiction. I walk a lot. I listen to music basically all the time and sing almost as much. Kate Bush is my top artist every year. I don’t watch much TV, but when I do I rewatch the same things over and over. The X Files is my comfort show. I’m a good cook. I like to write poems sometimes. I hate the smell of petrol and when my fingers get wrinkly in the bath. I like the transitional seasons of autumn and spring when it feels like the world is changing but I hate when winter and summer overstay their welcome.

I’ve been tattooing since 2020. I currently tattoo in Stockport in a lovely little studio called Crypt of the Crow.

My work takes inspiration from stories, mythology, and the eerie beauty in the mundane. I often wonder about our connection to nature, especially in modern urban life. I like to think there is always something more to things than what they seem. I should probably spend less time on my phone.
